  • 1 1/2 lbs. Carrots, large dice
  • 1 1/2 lbs. Celery, large dice
  • 1 1/2 lbs. Onion, large dice
  • 4 ea. Garlic cloves
  • 3 Tbsp. Butter
  • 2 lbs. MorningStar Farms® Sausage Style Crumbles (SKU: 28989-1023)
  • ½ bottle or 12.7 fl. oz. Red wine
  • 56 oz. Peeled plum tomatoes, canned
  • 2 cups Heavy cream
  • 3 Tbsp. Kosher salt
  • 2 tsp. Ground black pepper
  • 2 cups Basil
  • 1/2 tsp. Nutmeg, ground
  • 1 cup Orecchiette pasta
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded or grated
  • 2 Tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Parsley, minced

Recipe Directions

1. Add carrot, celery, onion, and garlic in a food processor and pulse until coarsely ground. In a pan, heat butter, then add vegetable mixture and cover with lid on high heat to sweat. Stir every 5 minutes for 15 minutes total.
2. Add MorningStar Farms® Sausage Style Crumbles and stir until browned. Add the red wine, tomatoes, and cream, and bring to a gentle simmer. Let simmer for 1 ½ hours, then season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat, fold in whole basil leaves with stems and add nutmeg.
3. Cook pasta in salted water until al dente and drain.
4. To Serve: Toss sauce with pasta and finish with parmesan cheese, extra virgin olive oil, and parsley.
