Cheesy Sautéed Onion Burgers

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups (1 pound 2 ounces) very thinly sliced sweet onion
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons (3 ounces) margarine
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seed (optional)
  • 24 each (3 pounds 12 ounces) Morningstar Farms® Grillers Prime®
  • 3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounce) brown mustard or Dijon mustard
  • 24 slices (12 ounces) thinly sliced Gruyére cheese or Swiss cheese

Recipe Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
2. Cook onion in hot margarine in nonstick frypan over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, for 14-18 minutes or until lightly browned. Stir in caraway seed, if desired.
3. Meanwhile, place patties on baking sheet. Bake at 350° F for 8 minutes. Turn patties. Bake 7 minutes more.
4. Spread mustard on top of patties. Top with cheese. Bake for 1-2 minutes more or until cheese melts.
5. Spoon onions over top of patties.
HELPFUL HINTS:
This recipe slowly sautés the onion to intensify the flavors of its natural sugars. Watch the onion carefully and stir frequently to avoid burning and off-flavors.
